Syncing a Deployment through Mesh or LAN Sync will require at least one tablet to have the most up-to-date content on it (see Option 1 and 2 to achieve this). The more up-to-date tablets you have to begin with, the faster the sync will complete. If you have connected to Mesh sync, ensure you disconnect from it before connecting to LAN sync.

Option 3: Deployment Configuration via Mesh Sync

Up to 5 Android devices (or Rumie tablets) can be synced at once through Mesh Sync (at least one up-to-date device and 4 devices that need to be synced). Please note, if more than 5 devices are to be synced through Mesh at once, you may experience connectivity issues due to the network.

  1. Ensure at least one android device with the Rumie app has the most up-to-date content and/or Deployment library on it
  2. Place all of the devices next to each other. It is recommended that they are in close proximity to one another
  3. Ensure that are you not connected to any network. Select “Forget Network” from Wifi settings for Mesh sync to successfully work
  4. On all of the devices, including the most up-to-date ones, navigate to the Rumie app
  5. In the Rumie app click on the Navigation Drawer. The Navigation Drawer can be accessed in side the Rumie App in the top left hand corner
  6. In the Navigation Drawer select “Settings”
  7. In the Settings screen select “Configure and Sync Deployment”
  8. Select “Mesh sync”
  9. In the Mesh sync screen, all of the devices will begin to load a list that shows all of the Android devices IDs that are close in proximity to each other. Loading this list might take a few seconds
  10. The ID of each device appears at the top of the screen, ex: “me: Rumie_d415
  11. Start by connecting two devices together by selecting one of the two devices ID in the list of devices available
  12. The status of the two devices will update to “connected”
  13. There will be one device that got assigned to Group Owner. The Group Owner is randomized. It is not necessarily the tablet that is the most up-to-date
  14. On the Group Owner device, select the other device ID’s from its list to connect them to the Group Owner
  15. Once all of the devices have a status of “connected”, on the Group Owner device click “Start syncing”
  16. The devices will begin syncing and will notify you once they are complete

Option 4: Deployment Configuration via LAN Sync

There is a 1:1 ratio of devices that need to be updated vs already updated devices. The more devices that are updated, the quicker the sync will become.

Recommendations for LAN sync before you begin:

Deployment library size/ content size to be synced: Up to 4GB
Number of devices to be synced:Up to 20 (19 to be synced and at least one tablet up-to-date)
Router speed:600 Mbps (2.5 GHz) + 1300 Mbps (5GHz)
Suggested router brand: D-Link AC1900 High Power Wi-Fi Gigabit Router
Battery on devices:

Try to have at least 50% battery before beginning a sync and/or have the devices plugged in to ensure the battery does not die mid-sync.

  1. Ensure at least one of the devices with the Rumie app has the most up-to-date content and/or Deployment library on it
  2. Place all of the devices next to each other. It is recommended that they are in close proximity to one another
  3. Connect all the devices to the same router through Wifi settings
  8. Select “LAN sync”
  9. Click "Start Syncing" on all devices

Apps

If the apps are being accessed on Rumie tablet, the Admin will see a few more apps than the Student, including the Rumie Tablet Settings, if the Deployment Library was created with Content Lockdown on. This ensures that the Admin can access everything on the Rumie Tablet and the Students can only access approved Content on the device.

Admin Usage

This section will provide the steps necessary to perform core functions as a Tablet Admin user.

UsageDescription

Updating Content

When a change has been made to the Deployment Library on the LearnCloud website, the Deployment Library on the Rumie app will need to be updated as well. Updating the Content on Rumie app can be achieved through four methods: SD cards, Internet Sync, Mesh Sync, or LAN Sync.

Updating Content with SD cards

  1. In the Rumie app login as Tablet Admin or as Student
  2. Navigate to “Settings” -> ”Configure Deployment” -> “Sync from SD card”
  3. Each Rumie Tablet will manually have to be synced from the SD card

Updating Content with Internet Sync

  1. In the Rumie app login as the Admin or as a Student
  2. Navigate to “Settings” -> “Configure Deployment” -> “Sync from Internet”

Updating Content/User Profiles with Mesh Sync

Updating content/user profiles with Mesh sync is the same process as adding a deployment through Mesh sync. Please see Option 3: Deployment Configuration via Mesh Sync

Updating Content/User Profiles with LAN Sync

Updating content/user profiles with LAN sync is the same process as adding a deployment through LAN sync. Please see  Option 4: Deployment Configuration via LAN Sync

Adding New User Profiles

The Deployment Library comes with pre-configured users. Additional users can be added through the Rumie app:

  1. Login as Admin
  2. In the Rumie app navigate to “Settings” -> “Configure Deployment” -> “Add a New Student” -> Input the desired new student credentials

Student Usage

Logging In

There can be multiple students logged into the same account on different Rumie app. If the Rumie app is being used on the Rumie tablets, there is access to view the analytics of each user. To ensure accurate analytics, each student should have their own account.

  1. Inside the Rumie app select “Student”
  2. Input the student login username and password that has been provided by the Admin

Troubleshooting

Mesh Sync

Issue

Solution
“You are currently connected to Wifi network. Please use LAN sync to update via this network, or select “Forget Network” from Wifi settings to use Mesh Sync.”
  1. Navigate to Wifi settings
  2. Select the networks that you have connected to in the past
  3. Click “Forget” on each of the networks
Android Devices are not connecting to Group Owner If you are having trouble connecting an android device to the Group Owner, try connecting it to Group Owner this time through selecting the Group Owner ID on the android device that is to be updated. If an android device is still not connecting, there might be a poor network connection. Try syncing with fewer devices.
Android Device List DisappearingAfter a period of time, the device list will disappear. If this happens to you, click "Refresh device list" to retrieve the device list again. This may take a few seconds. If it is still not refreshing, try exiting out of the Mesh sync page and then reloading it.
Android Device Status

When a tablet is connecting to the Group Owner tablet, its status will take a few seconds to change from "not connected" to "connected". During this time, please be patient and wait for the status to change to connected.

"Mesh Sync is complete 0 Content(s) updated."  The tablet is already up-to-date with the most recent content.
Android devices that are not Rumie tablets are showing up in the available devices listThis will happen because the network is searching for all Android devices. However, they will not start syncing with the content or interfere in the sync.
Mesh sync did not sync all content If the Mesh sync did not sync all of your content try going through Mesh sync again with the android device that did not receive all of the new content.

LAN sync

IssueSolution
Android device is syncing wrong deployment/contentIf devices that have different content on them are connected to the same router, disconnect the device that you do not want to sync from the router. You can reconnect all devices to the router once the sync is complete.
No Wifi connected
  1. Ensure your device is connected to your router's network
  2. Navigate to Wifi settings
  3. Select and connect to the router's network
"Syncing Searching for update"The android device is searching for an update and will begin syncing when there is room on the server for it.
"LAN: Sync is complete No new update was found"The android device is already up-to-date with the most recent content.
