About
Hello, welcome to your Rumie App!
This user manual will explain everything you need to know about your Rumie app so you can quickly set up your Project Library and begin learning. Please refer to the document Terminology for any unknown terms.
Project Setup
Once the Project Library has been created in the LearnCloud Admin Panel (see LearnCloud User Guide), there are two ways to load the Project Library from the LearnCloud Admin Panel to the Rumie app. It can be done through Internet or using the SD cards that are provided along with the Rumie Tablets.
If your Internet connection is weak consider using the SD cards. It might take a significantly longer time to load the Project Library if the Internet connectivity is poor. If your bandwidth is limited consider using the SD card option.

Project Updates
Syncing a Project through Mesh or LAN Sync will require at least one tablet to have the most up-to-date content on it (see Option 1 and 2 to achieve this). The more up-to-date tablets you have to begin with, the faster the sync will complete. If you have connected to Mesh sync, ensure you disconnect from it before connecting to LAN sync.
Option 1: Project Update via Mesh Sync
Up to 5 Android devices (or Rumie tablets) can be synced at once through Mesh Sync (at least one up-to-date device and 4 devices that need to be synced). Please note, if more than 5 devices are to be synced through Mesh at once, you may experience connectivity issues due to the network.
Mesh sync is supported on Rumie Tablets and mobile devices that support WiFi Direct™. For further information on WiFi direct: Discover WiFi Direct
- Ensure at least one android device with the Rumie app has the most up-to-date content and/or Project Library on it (refer to Project Setup to sync a project onto your device)
- Place all of the devices next to each other. It is recommended that they are in close proximity to one another
- Ensure that are you not connected to any network. Select “Forget Network” from Wifi settings for Mesh sync to successfully work
- On all of the devices, including the most up-to-date ones, navigate to the Rumie app
- In the Rumie app click on the Navigation Drawer. The Navigation Drawer can be accessed inside the Rumie App in the top left hand corner
- In the Navigation Drawer select “Settings”
- In the Settings screen select “Configure and Sync project”
- Select “Mesh sync”
- In the Mesh sync screen, all of the devices will begin to load a list that shows all of the Android devices IDs that are close in proximity to each other. Loading this list might take a few seconds
- The ID of each device appears at the top of the screen, ex: “me: Rumie_d415”
- Start by connecting two devices together by selecting one of the two devices ID in the list of devices available
- The status of the two devices will update to “connected”
- There will be one device that got assigned to Group Owner. The Group Owner is randomized. It is not necessarily the tablet that is the most up-to-date
- On the Group Owner device, select the other device ID’s from its list to connect them to the Group Owner
- Once all of the devices have a status of “connected”, on the Group Owner device click “Start syncing”
- The devices will begin syncing and will notify you once they are complete
Option 2: Project Update via LAN Sync
There is a 1:1 ratio of devices that need to be updated vs already updated devices. The more devices that are updated, the quicker the sync will become.
Recommendations for LAN sync before you begin:
Project library size/ content size to be synced: | Up to 4GB |
---|---|
Number of devices to be synced: | Up to 20 (19 to be synced and at least one tablet up-to-date) |
Router speed: | 600 Mbps (2.5 GHz) + 1300 Mbps (5GHz) |
Suggested router brand: | D-Link AC1900 High Power Wi-Fi Gigabit Router |
Battery on devices: | Try to have at least 50% battery before beginning a sync and/or have the devices plugged in to ensure the battery does not die mid-sync. |
- Ensure at least one of the devices with the Rumie app has the most up-to-date content and/or Project Library on it (refer to Project Setup to sync a project onto your device)
- Place all of the devices next to each other. It is recommended that they are in close proximity to one another
- Connect all the devices to the same router through Wifi settings
- On all of the devices, including the most up-to-date ones, navigate to the Rumie app

- In the Navigation Drawer select “Settings”
- In the Settings screen select “Configure and Sync project”
- Select “LAN sync”
- Click "Start Syncing" on all devices
Option 3: Project Update via the Internet
- Ensure you are connected to Wifi
- Inside the Rumie app login as an Admin or Learner
- Click on the Navigation Drawer. The Navigation Drawer can be accessed inside the Rumie App in the top left hand corner
- In the Navigation Drawer select “My Libraries”
- Ensure the correct library you would like to update is checked off
- Click "Internet sync"

- Once the download is complete follow the steps in the *Operating System Chart located below
- Insert the SD card into an SD card adapter
- Insert the SD card adapter into the computer
- Delete the Rumie folder inside the SD card. This is because you will be replacing the updated Rumie folder in the SD card

As an Admin it is possible to delete apps on the home screen under the Apps tab. This is done by long pressing the app and a notification will appear "Uninstall application?" if the Admin clicks on YES the app will be removed from the Apps screen. To re-download the app that was deleted from the Apps screen please follow the steps below.
- Navigate into the Rumie app
- Login as Admin
- Navigate to the Collection where the app was located
- Since the app was removed it should have a green android robot next to it
- Click on the app
- A notification will appear "Do you want to install this application? It does not require any special access."
- Click INSTALL
- After the installation is complete click OPEN to begin using the app
- The app will now re-appear in the home screen under the Apps page
Mesh Sync
Issue | Solution |
---|---|
“You are currently connected to Wifi network. Please use LAN sync to update via this network, or select “Forget Network” from Wifi settings to use Mesh Sync.” |
|
Android Devices are not connecting to Group Owner | If you are having trouble connecting an android device to the Group Owner, try connecting it to Group Owner this time through selecting the Group Owner ID on the android device that is to be updated. If an android device is still not connecting, there might be a poor network connection. Try syncing with fewer devices. |
Android Device List Disappearing | After a period of time, the device list will disappear. If this happens to you, click "Refresh device list" to retrieve the device list again. This may take a few seconds. If it is still not refreshing, try exiting out of the Mesh sync page and then reloading it. |
Android Device Status | When a tablet is connecting to the Group Owner tablet, its status will take a few seconds to change from "not connected" to "connected". During this time, please be patient and wait for the status to change to connected. |
"Mesh Sync is complete 0 Content(s) updated." | The tablet is already up-to-date with the most recent content. |
Android devices that are not Rumie tablets are showing up in the available devices list | This will happen because the network is searching for all Android devices. However, they will not start syncing with the content or interfere in the sync. |
Mesh sync did not sync all content | If the Mesh sync did not sync all of your content try going through Mesh sync again with the android device that did not receive all of the new content. |
Mobile Android Devices are not connecting to the Mesh Network | Mesh sync is supported on Rumie Tablets and mobile devices that support WiFi Direct™. For further information on WiFi direct: Discover WiFi Direct. |
LAN sync
Issue | Solution |
---|---|
Android device is syncing wrong project/content | If devices that have different content on them are connected to the same router, disconnect the device that you do not want to sync from the router. You can reconnect all devices to the router once the sync is complete. |
No Wifi connected |
|
"Syncing Searching for update" | The android device is searching for an update and will begin syncing when there is room on the server for it. |
"LAN: Sync is complete No new update was found" | The android device is already up-to-date with the most recent content. |
